Events happening in the current year
This page features the predictable anniversaries and calendar-days for the year which are relevant to St Helena, though not all are necessarily widely celebrated here. Some events cannot be predicted and are therefore omitted. Some UK holidays are only marked here by the British ex-pats. Some American holidays are included, celebrated particularly by Saints that have worked on Ascension Island. Many of these dates vary from year to year (Easter, Remembrance Sunday, etc.) and thus require calculation (if you spot an error please contact us{1}).

The chart below shows the number of items in our Events Database for each decade since 1500 (decades with no events are omitted). Unsurprisingly, there are more events for more-recent years.

Fake dates in common use:
⋅ 30th February is often used as a sarcastic date, referring to something that will never happen or will never be done.
⋅ 35th May is used in mainland China to avoid censorship when referring to the Tiananmen Square Massacre of 1989; the events took place on 4th June.
